In order to be accepted into CalStateTEACH, applicants must demonstrate evidence of:

Bachelors Degree +

  1. A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university (unless you are an undergraduate with senior standing at a CSU).
  2. A grade point average of 2.5 overall or 2.75 in the last 60 semester or 90 quarter units. ([Petition for Exceptional Admission available]1.) If you have an undergraduate GPA of less than 2.5, you may not be eligible to receive financial aid.
  3. One official, sealed copy of all university transcripts.
  4. For foreign transcripts, please review the link for approved evaluation companies and the foreign transcript process as indicated by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/foreign-transcript-evaluation-(cl-635)
  5. If you are a graduate of Fresno State, you do not need to submit official transcripts.

Verification of fulfillment of Basic Skills requirement: Required for admission. +

Verification of Subject Matter Competence +

  1. Passage of the Multiple Subject California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET) or
  2. Subject matter verification from an approved Elementary Subject Matter Program.
  3. Applicants must submit verification two weeks after the application deadline.
  4. Applicants who have not yet met the subject matter requirement may begin the program in a pre-professional split-term one, the split term one is not available in the summer term. Subject matter must be met before enrolling in term two of the program.

Letters of Recommendation +

Recommendation letters (evaluations) are completed through the Cal State Apply website. You will enter the writers' information when you complete your online application. Cal State Apply will email instructions to the writers to complete their recommendation.

Autobiographical statement. +

Describe succinctly your reasons for applying to the Credential program, your preparation for this field of study and why the program is a good fit for you. Consider the following questions: Why do you want to be a teacher? What personal qualities do you possess and what experiences have you had that have prepared you to work in a collaborative environment?

Interview with a CalStateTEACH faculty member.+

You will be contacted by a faculty member about arranging an interview after you have submitted your application.

Health Clearance:

Tuberculin and Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) clearance is required +

  1. Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) Immunization: All new and readmitted students must provide proof of full immunization against measles, mumps and rubella prior to enrollment. If you attended a California State University or University of California institution as an undergraduate, you have met that requirement. If you have personal or religious reasons for not obtaining proof, please commplete our MMR Waiver.
  2. Proof of tuberculin clearance completed within 6 months of program application must be submitted and is to be valid through the length of the program. Because of AB1667 applicants may complete a TB Risk Assessment or a TB test. (Some school districts may require the TB test and that may delay a candidate's placement.) The tuberculin clearance may be completed at a private physician's office, the County Health Department, or a campus Student Health Center. Immunization Waiver.

Personal Requirements:

Certificate of Clearance +

May be obtained from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. A 30-day Subsubstitute permit is also valid.

Personal email account. +

An email account that may be used to contact you.

Letter of Good Standing +

Only for applicants who have attended another Teacher Preparation Program.

Intern or Private School Teacher Option +

  1. Contract to a multiple-subject classroom in an accredited public school.
  2. Contract to a multiple-subject classroom in an accredited private school.
